Previous grants and collaborations

Wilson Center Scholarship Program

The foundation has collaborated with The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars on several occasions over the past years.

The foundation has decided to continue the collaboration with The Woodrow Wilson Center and together with three other foundations a new joint application pool has been founded for the period 1.6.2025- 31.12.2027 for Finns working in key positions within social, economic and cultural life and media and researchers in these fields.

Suomi-Amerikka Yhdistysten Liitto (SAM)

In 2023 the foundation started a collaboration with Suomi-Amerikka Yhdistysten Liitto (SAM) for the next five years.

Within the framework of this collaboration, the Foundation will support Finnish students aspiring to study in the United States at master's or PhD level in subjects that align with the foundation's purpose.

In 2024, the foundation granted the first SAM scholarship for studies at the Cornell Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management.

The application process for the SAM grant is handled by SAM and not the foundation.

The foundation has supported various individuals and associations over the years. For instance:

  • Internship at United Nations University’s World Institute for Development Economics Research

  • Participation in EGOS-Colloquium

  • Internship at Consulate General of Finland in New York

  • Studies at Wharton business school at the University of Pennsylvania

  • Post doctoral research “Unconventional monetary policy and corporate bond pricing”

  • Support to Libera, an independent and politically unaffiliated think tank

  • Internship at Permanent Mission of Finland to the United States, New York

Grants to publications and journalism

Kustaa Hulkko: Pihalla kuin lumiukko ("Haven't got a clue") Edita, Helsinki 2004, is a study of economic policy decision making in Finland in the early 1990's. Mr. Hulkko, a senior staff reporter of the Finnish business daily Kauppalehti, using the minutes of the supervisory board of the Bank of Finland, illuminates the process that lead up to the monetary policy failures that produced the devaluations of 1991 and 1992 and the subsequent economic depression.

Johan Norberg: Globaalin kapitalismin puolustus (In Defence of Global Capitalism) Ajatus, Jyväskylä 2004, is a Finnish language translation of the author's original work in Swedish. Dr. Norberg is a fellow of the Stockholm-based think-tank Timbro. In his important book he makes a compelling argument in favour of free trade and free movement of capital.
